How To Install Windows 10 In A Virtual Machine


Windows 10 is officially available to the world, and it’s actually a fairly solid release. It’s not perfect, but it’s still worth checking out for the novelty factor alone. That being said, upgrading a production machine immediately after a major OS release is typically frowned upon. For those of us who want to try out all the new features without putting our productivity in jeopardy, virtualization is the best bet for the time being.

VirtualBox installation -


1. Download the Windows 10 ISO -

First off, head over to the Windows 10 download page, and select which edition you want to download. Click “Confirm,” choose your language, and click “Confirm” again. At this point, you’ll be given the option to pick between the 32-bit and 64-bit versions of the OS. For the purposes of this walkthrough, I’m using the 64-bit English ISO, but go with whatever works for your set-up.
2. Create a new virtual machine

Go to the VirtualBox website, and download the latest version of Oracle’s free, open source software. Go through the installation process, and then launch the application. Press the “New” button, and name your virtual machine. Make sure your “Type” is set to “Microsoft Windows,” and your “Version” is set to “Windows 10.” Just make sure you match the x64 version with a 64-bit VM, and the x86 version with a 32-bit VM.
3. Allocate RAM

Now, you need to decide how much RAM you want to allocate for this VM. For the x86 version, you’ll need at least 1GB of RAM. For the x64 version, you’ll need 2GB. I have 16GB of RAM in my desktop, so I decided that 4GB was right for my configuration. Whatever you decide, just make sure you stay in the green. If you allocate too much RAM, you’ll end up with serious performance issues.
4. Create a virtual drive

Next, you need to create a virtual drive. Microsoft says that 16GB is the minimum space needed for the 32-bit version, but 20GB is required for the 64-bit version. I decided on a 50GB virtual drive on my desktop, but feel free to make it as large as you need. Just be sure that you have enough space on your actual hard drive to handle the size of your virtual drive.
5. Locate the Windows 10 ISO

Now, go into the settings for this virtual machine, and navigate to the “Storage” tab. Click the disc icon with a green plus next to “Controller: SATA.” Click “Choose disk,” and then locate the Windows 10 ISO you downloaded earlier.
6. Configure video settings

Before you jump in and start installing Windows 10, move over to the “Display” tab. You can configure how much video memory you’re willing to allocate to the virtual machine, but make sure you stay in the green. You can also toggle on 3D and 2D acceleration in hopes of better performance, but the VirtualBox user manual lists them as experimental, so it’s possible that you may run into some quirks.
7. Launch the installer

With all of that setup finished, press the “Start” button in VirtualBox, and begin the Windows 10 installation process. Follow the instructions on the screen, and you’re well on your way. You’ll eventually be prompted for your credentials, so provide your Live.com username and password. This is how you’ll log into your account in Windows 10.
8. Install Virtual Box guest additions

Once you’re at the Windows 10 desktop, you’ll need to install all of the proper drivers for VirtualBox. In the VirtualBox UI, go to “Devices,” and then select “Insert Guest Additions CD image.” Navigate to that disc image in Windows Explorer, and run the installer. Once you’ve gone through the entire process, you’ll need to reboot the VM.


9. You’re ready to rock
Back at the desktop, you can finally use full-screen mode at the proper resolution. In the VirtualBox menu, go to “View,” and select “Switch to Fullscreen.” For the most part, this is now the same experience you’d have running it natively. Enjoy yourself, and feel free to poke around all the new features.

Uber to invest $1 billion in India

BENGALURU: Uber Technologies Inc will invest $1 billion in India in the next nine months as the online ride hailing company is bullish on the Indian market.

Uber said it would use the additional investment to improve operations, expand into newer cities, and develop new products and payment solutions.

"Uber has grown exponentially in India, a global priority market for us, which has also quickly become the largest market geographically for Uber outside the US," Amit Jain, president of Uber India said in a statement.

The news of Uber's investment in India was first reported by the Financial Times, which said it was the first time the company had set such a target for India.

Earlier this month, a Delhi court revoked a government ban on Uber, clearing the way for the company to operate in the capital city and reapply for a license.

India asked unregistered web-based taxi services to halt operations in December after a driver contracted with Uber was accused of rape. Uber applied for licenses in New Delhi but continued its operations while approvals were pending.

Uber said India and China are its priority markets. It had said last month that it would invest more than $1 billion in China this year as it looks to rev up growth in the world's second largest economy.

One of the fastest-growing sharing-economy companies, Uber operates in 57 countries, with an estimated value of more than $40 billion. It has also tangled with transportation authorities across the globe, along with attorneys seeking to deem Uber drivers employees entitled to benefits.

IPL Betting Verdict: Chennai, Rajasthan Suspended For 2 yrs; Life Ban For Kundra, Meiyappan


A Supreme Court-appointed panel suspended former champions Chennai Super Kings and Rajasthan Royals from the Indian Premier League for two years on Tuesday as it presented its verdict on the spot-fixing and betting scandal that hit the T20 tournament in 2013.

ICC chief N Srinivasan's son-in-law Gurunath Meiyappan and Rajasthan Royals co-owner Raj Kundra were suspended from any type of cricketing activity for life after they were found guilty of betting in the tournament. Srinivasan was earlier restricted by the court from running for another term as president of the Board of Control for Cricket in India owing to a conflict of interest. His company India Cements held a stake in the Chennai franchise.

"He (Meiyappan) is found guilty of betting, his conduct affected image of BCCI, the (T20) league and the game," justice RM Lodha, who is heading the probe panel, said at a press conference on Tuesday.

"Raj Kundra was placing bets through a known punter and was constantly in touch with bookies," Lodha added. "Rajasthan Royals have damaged the faith of BCCI and the sport, Mr Raj Kundra is found guilty of misconduct," he said.
Lodha was appointed head of the sentencing panel in January after the Supreme Court had found Royals' co-owner Kundra and CSK's Meiyappan guilty of betting on the outcome of matches in 2013.

"Jaipur IPL team can't shrink responsibility by saying Mr Kundra acted in personal capacity," justice Lodha said.
The committee also proposed to impose sanctions on India Cement's franchise by suspending it from the league for two years. "No action was taken by India Cements against Mr Meiyappan," he said.

On IPL COO Sundar Raman’s involvement in the case, Lodha said: “It requires further investigation.” When asked about criminal action regarding those involved in betting and fixing, Lodha said the law will take its own course.
The apex court had held that the allegation of betting against Meiyappan and Kundra stood proved and set up the three-member committee of its retired judges to determine the punishment for Meiyappan, who was the CSK team Principal and Kundra.

The 2013 IPL season was mired in controversy after police launched legal proceedings against several officials and cricketers, including former Test fast bowler S Sreesanth, for illegal betting and spot-fixing.

The hugely popular Chennai Super Kings are the most successful team in the IPL, having won the tournament in 2010 and 2011, and finished runners-up in 2008, 2012, 2013 and 2015.

Rajasthan Royals won the inaugural event in 2008 under the captaincy of Australian spin legend Shane Warne, but have failed to make the final since then.

US welcomes Modi-Sharif meeting

WASHINGTON: The US has welcomed the scheduled meeting between Prime Minister Narendra Modi and his Pakistani counterpart Nawaz Sharif in Russia on Friday, saying the tension between the two south Asian neighbours is not in anyone's interest.

"We welcome the (upcoming) meeting between Indian and Pakistani leaders there on the sidelines of this conference," state department spokesperson John Kirby told reporters on Thursday at his daily news conference when asked about the Modi-Sharif meeting in Ufa.

"We also welcome any steps that both countries can take to try to reduce the tensions. That's been our long standing position," Kirby said.

"We want to see the tensions reduced, and we want to see these issues resolved bilaterally between the two countries. It's in nobody's interest for the tensions to rise and to increase, and for the tensions in the region to become less stable in many ways than they already are," he said.

Responding to a question, Kirby said both the leaders want peace; and that's certainly what the US wants as well.

"There's an awful lot of kids living in that part of the world who I think everybody wants to make sure they have a better future. I think that's what we would hope the leaders in both countries are also trying to pursue. But these are issues that we want to see them solve bilaterally," Kirby said.

Modi and Sharif will have a bilateral meeting in Ufa today on sidelines of the Shanghai Cooperation Organisation (SCO) Summit and are expected to discuss the status of the bilateral ties and the future direction.

Gurgaon: Elevated U-turn planned at toll plaza site for mall access

An elevated U-turn will soon be constructed over the Delhi Gurgaon Expressway in a bid to make it easier for commuters to reach Ambience mall, DLF- III, and Cyber City.

For traffic north to the NH-8, crossing has been a nightmare. Commuters are hassled when they try to reach these places — all due to the absence of a U-turn. Commuters travel a minimum of 750 meters extra (per side) towards Rajokari to take a U-turn from under the flyover to reach their destinations.

Things are about to change however, as the National Highway Authority of India (NHAI) is ready to give its nod to the construction of the elevated U-turn soon. The final drawing has been submitted.

As per the design, the U-turn ramp would start from the site of dismantled KM 24 Toll Plaza (towards Udyog Vihar side) and it would fall at the opposite side, just before the Ambience mall, and from here it is proposed to be underground with entries/ exits for both Ambience mall and DLF-III.

This underground slope would further come to the ground and merge into surface 16-lane DLF signal-free corridor somewhere near the National Media Centre.

The proposed drawing has, besides the three elevated lanes, two bus Q-shelters (both sides) and one foot over bridge (FoB). A high level meeting is slated this week between the officials of NHAI and Haryana Urban Development Authority (Huda).

“We hope we get approval from the NHAI head office shortly. Once the drawing is approved, the detailed project report (DPR) will be prepared and tender will be floated. Within a year, the contractor will have to complete the elevated U-turn, two bus Q-shelters and one FoB,” said a senior NHAI official.
According to the NHAI, Huda will bear 50% cost of the project while rest 50% will be taken care of by DLF and Ambience.

The plan was first discussed in February 2012 in a high level meeting in Delhi between NHAI and top Haryana government officials.

In line with these objectives, the government has launched some inititaives. Others are being readied for launch. We take a look at some of them:

1. Digital Locker System aims to minimize the usage of physical documents and enable sharing of e-documents across agencies. The sharing of the e-documents will be done through registered repositories thereby ensuring the authenticity of the documents online, says the government.

2. MyGov.in has been implemented as a platform for citizen engagement in governance, through a "Discuss", "Do" and "Disseminate" approach. The mobile app for MyGov would bring these features to users on a mobile phone.

3. Swachh Bharat Mission (SBM) Mobile app would be used by people and Government organizations for achieving the goals of Swachh Bharat Mission.

4. eSign framework would allow citizens to digitally sign a document online using Aadhaar authentication.

5. The Online Registration System (ORS) under the eHospital application has been introduced. This application provides important services such as online registration, payment of fees and appointment, online diagnostic reports, enquiring availability of blood online etc, the government claims.

6. National Scholarships Portal is said to be a one stop solution for end to end scholarship process right from submission of student application, verification, sanction and disbursal to end beneficiary for all the scholarships provided by the Government of India.

7. DeitY has undertaken an initiative namely Digitize India Platform (DIP) for large scale digitization of records in the country that would facilitate efficient delivery of services to the citizens.

8. The Government of India has undertaken an initiative namely Bharat Net, a high speed digital highway to connect all 2.5 lakh Gram Panchayats of country. This would be the world's largest rural broadband connectivity project using optical fibre.

9. Policy initiatives have also been undertaken by DeitY in the e-Governance domain like e-Kranti Framework, Policy on Adoption of Open Source Software for Government of India, Framework for Adoption of Open Source Software in e-Governance Systems, Policy on Open Application Programming Interfaces (APIs) for Government of India, E-mail Policy of Government of India, Policy on Use of IT Resources of Government of India, Policy on Collaborative Application Development by Opening the Source Code of Government Applications, Application Development & Re-Engineering Guidelines for Cloud Ready Applications.

10. BSNL has introduced Next Generation Network (NGN), to replace 30 year old exchanges, which is an IP based technology to manage all types of services like voice, data, multimedia/ video and other types of packet switched communication services.

11. BSNL has undertaken large scale deployment of Wi-Fi hotspots throughout the country. The user can latch on the BSNL Wi-Fi network through their mobile devices.

12. BPO Policy has been approved to create BPO centres in different North Eastern states and also in smaller / mofussil towns of other states.

13. Electronics Development Fund (EDF) Policy aims to promote Innovation, R&D, and Product Development and to create a resource pool of IP within the country to create a self-sustaining eco-system of Venture Funds.

14. National Centre for Flexible Electronics (NCFlexE) is an initiative of Government of India to promote research and innovation in the emerging area of Flexible Electronics.

15. Centre of Excellence on Internet on Things (IoT) is a joint initiative of Department of Electronics & Information Technology (DeitY), ERNET and NASSCOM.

"The estimated impact of Digital India by 2019 would be cross cutting, ranging from broadband connectivity in all Panchayats, Wi-fi in schools and universities and Public Wi-Fihotspots. The programme will generate huge number of IT, Telecom and Electronics jobs, both directly and indirectly. Success of this programme will make India Digitally empowered and the leader in usage of IT in delivery of services related to various domains such as health, education, agriculture, banking, etc," the government claims

Six developers penalized for violating construction code in Haryana

GURGAON: The Haryana State Pollution Control Board (HSPCB) has penalized six developers between Rs 1.5 lakh and Rs 2.5 lakh each in the past 30 days due to violations of the Union ministry of environment and forest’s (MoEF) 2010 construction guidelines.

The move followed the National Green Tribunal orders on April 10, 2015, to the PCB to carry out inspections throughout NCR. The tribunal later ordered the PCB to impose a penalty of Rs 50,000 on defaulters as well as seal their projects. HSPCB till now has fined 21 developer including 6 developers fine over last month.

An official from HSPCB said the developers were found violating basic norms stipulated in the MoEF 2010 construction guidelines, such as using green barriers, wind-breaker walls around construction sites, covering of construction material and waste, and use of sprinklers at the construction sites to reduce emission of dust.

Among the 6 fined construction sites, one site is located in Sector 102 near the Dwarka expressway , two on Golf Course Road and three in sectors nearby.

While the builder in Sector 102 was fined Rs 1.5 lakh, those on Golf Course Road have paid Rs 2.5 lakh penalty each. Three other developers have also paid penalties of Rs 1 lakh to Rs 1.5 lakh each, the official said.

HSPCB has been inspecting 8 to 10 construction sites per week since the NGT directive. “We are re-inspecting some sites as well to ensure that developers don’t stop following construction norms,” an official of HSPCB stated.

HSPCB also warned all developers to starting following MoEF construction norms immediately. Additionally, the pollution board will also write to the regional transport authority to check and crackdown on vehicles carrying construction material without covers. “Though the court notice was sent to all departments, we are getting complaints of vehicles carrying construction material without cover. We have, therefore, decided to report it to RTA,” said the official.
